Joe L. Auch Moedy
May 11, 1943 - August 29, 2010

 

 Joe L. Auch Moedy, age 67, of Ravenna and formerly of Kearney died Sunday afternoon, August 29, 2010 at his residence southwest of Ravenna.
            Funeral services will be Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Main officiating. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no visitation. Memorials are planned to the Kearney High School soccer program, First United Methodist Church or the American Red Cross.

            Joe was born May 11, 1943 in Central City, NE to Herbert B. and Ardeth E. (Surface) Auch Moedy. The family moved to Broken Bow where Joe attended school, graduating from Broken Bow high school in 1961. He enrolled at UNL where he did his undergraduate studies for three years and then four years at the UNMC. He married Esther C. Govaerts on August 14, 1965 in Broken Bow. He entered the service in September of 1969 and served in the U.S. Air Force until he was discharged in September of 1971. Joe was a physician in Family Practice in Broken Bow for five years and after completing his residency at U.N.M.C. was employed as a pathologist at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney for 25 years until he retired in 2005.
 
            He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kearney and the American Legion Post # 126 in Broken Bow. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, tennis and bike riding.

2 sons-Andrew and his wife Debi of Omaha
            Matthew and his wife Amy of Lincoln
5 grandchildren-Sophie, Gabi and Joey of Omaha and Sam and Josie of Lincoln
1 brother-Gary and his wife Sharon of Mandeville, LA
Brother-in-law and sister-in-law-John and Mary McDaniel of Sargent, NE
 
Joe was preceded in death by his parents.
