Bette E. Babbitt, 87, of Kearney died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Kearney. Rev. Eric Lesher and Rev. Rebecca Craig will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney or prior to services Friday at the church. Burial of ashes will be in the church columbarium. Memorials are suggested to the First Lutheran Church or the Good Samaritan Emergency Services. She was born March 29, 1923 in Council Bluffs, IA to Edward and Marie (Skaith) Christensen. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs in 1941. During WWII she worked for the Corps of Engineer’s.
On March 23, 1946 she married Bernard Babbitt in Council Bluffs. They lived in Kearney then moved to the Amherst area where they lived from 1952 – 2002 then moved back to Kearney where they have lived since.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Kearney, the American Legion Auxiliary in Council Bluffs, IA for 74 years and was also a Job’s Daughter in Council Bluffs. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle, and watching Nebraska football.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister; Dorothy Neve, an infant daughter and grandson Bronson Stubbs.
