C. LaVonne (Busboom) Krick (“Bonnie”) was the third child of Harm Johann and Mary Viola (Lofquist) Busboom. She was born 2 miles north of Fairfield on March 22, 1920. Bonnie’s mother passed away when she was four years of age, she moved with her father and 5 siblings to Wahoo, for a few years, before returning to Fairfield. In 1938 she graduated from Fairfield High School where she was a member of the band, mixed chorus, glee club and participated in school plays.

In 1940 she married Donald Krick of rural Minden, NE.   In their early years of married life, they lived in Hastings and Red Cloud. During the war years, she traveled to be near her husband and worked as a waitress, phone operator, sales clerk at Montgomery Ward, and was later employed as a payroll clerk at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings.

Following WWII, Bonnie and her husband settled in York, NE where Don was employed by the Farmers’ Home Administration. Their son, David Wayne was born in Omaha during this time. In the late 1940s they moved to Ord, NE, where son John Douglas was born in 1949. While living in Ord, Bonnie was a bookkeeper and cashier for Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas Company and was active in the First United Methodist Church.

The family moved to Kearney in 1966 where Bonnie was employed as a new accounts manager for the First National Bank of Kearney, for 16 years. She was an avid genealogist and has published  books on the Busboom Branches and the Krick-Hansen Kinfolk. Bonnie was very active in Eastern Star, was Worthy Matron three times, and held all of the other offices. She was past president of the VFW Auxiliary and was twice president of the Ft. Kearney Genealogy Society. Bonnie was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Kearney for almost 40 years.

Bonnie enjoyed family reunions, playing bridge, golf, travel, cooking, and staying up til midnight working the crossword puzzles in the newspaper. She was well known for her excellent cooking. Her fried chicken was always the first thing gone at area picnics, followed soon by her cookies.

During their 69 years of marriage, Bonnie and Don traveled all over the United States (including Hawaii), as well as Mexico, Great Britain, and Germany. Their family vacations usually involved visiting siblings in Ohio, Arizona, California, Oregon, and Colorado.

In February of 2009, husband Don Krick passed away and, soon thereafter, Bonnie moved to Lincoln to be near son John and his family. She resided at The Landing at Williamsburg Assisted Living for the past 1 ½ years. While there she had family visitors virtually every day, enjoyed the comfort of daily assistance, and thoroughly enjoyed excellent food.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, four sisters, her husband Donald E Krick (2/4/09), and sons Donald Krick Jr (10/14/44), David Wayne Krick (7/5/52).
