Darrel Jon Kominek, 82, of Kearney, died Sunday, April 14, 2019 at Kearney Regional Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Saint James Catholic Church with Father Joseph Hannappel officiating. Burial will follow at the Minden Cemetery in Minden with military honors graveside by the United States Navy Funeral Honors Team and Minden American Legion Post #94. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 23rd, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the family present, followed by a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 pm at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Darrel was born on October 19, 1936 in Wahoo, NE to John and Anna (Chloupek) Kominek. He graduated from Minden High School in 1954 and entered in the Navy the same year. When Darrel finished the Navy in 1957, he went to Southeast Community College to study to be an Automotive Body Technician. On June 2, 1959 he married Helen Hemberger. He enjoyed researching his family’s genealogy, golf, fishing, hunting, and working on cars. Darrel’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him. Darrel is survived by his daughter, Barbara and Steven Hoyt of Minden; Daughter-in-law Patricia Kominek of Vienna, VA; granddaughters, Sara and Kent Urwiller of Ravenna, NE and Shelby and Brian Cody of Minden, NE; great grandchildren, Tessa and Kayden Urwiller of Ravenna, NE. Darrel is preceded in death by his wife Helen (Hemberger) Kominek; son, Steven Kominek; brother, Sherman Kominek; parents John and Anna (Chloupek) Kominek.
