Reva June Wempen, age 85, of Sumner, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2020 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Grace Lutheran Church in Sumner with Pastor Vic Rasmussen officiating. For those who do not wish to attend the funeral in person, the funeral will be prodcast through the radio on FM 91.1, within a 3 mile radius of the church. Burial will follow at the Sumner Cemetery with Pastor Ken Hutson officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Reva was born June 9, 1935 in Amherst to Herbert and Ethel Anderson-Steinhauser. She attended school at Liberty Hill School North of Amherst and Amherst High School. On September 2, 1952 she married Harry Herbert Wempen in Holdrege. She milked cows twice a day for 35 years on the family farm. Later in life, she worked at Baldwin Filters Manufacturing Company in Kearney for two years; Becton Dickinson Manufacturing Company in Holdrege for 13 years; and Tub’s Pub. She was always a Lutheran Woman on a mission! She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church North of Amherst; was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Sumner; was a member of the Grace Concordia Society-LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League), serving in most of the offices of the society; attended Stone Croft Bible Studies and Ellen Karlberg’s Bible Studies. Reva enjoyed quilting and embroidery; was an avid reader; enjoyed gardening and canning; and enjoyed studying genealogy. She dearly loved her family, especially her grandkids. Reva is survived by her son Terry Wempen and wife Pam of Sumner, NE.; daughters, Janet Furry of Gresham, NE, Nancy Welsh of Shelby, NE, Cindy Elliott and husband Jeff of Garden City, KS, Joyce Wempen and Charlie Ripp of Sumner, NE; brother, Harlan and Marlene Steinhauser of Amherst, NE, Dan and Kathy Steinhauser of Kearney, NE; brother-in-law Don Kreutzer of Amherst, NE; grandchildren, Parry Siebenaler and wife Lisa, Carmen Wempen and Dean Pelowski, Jason Cranwell and wife Jordan, Andrew Lopez and Miranda Sealey, Stacy Lopez, Cara Stephens, Katherine Dornes and husband Brad; 15 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and many nieces nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Reva was proceeded in death by her parents; husband Harry; sisters Karen Ann and Sharon Kay Steinhauser, and Connie Kreutzer; son-in-law Jim Welsh and daughter-in-law Pam Handy.
