Gerald L. Rumbeck

Gerald L. Rumbeck, 80, of Amherst, died Saturday, November 5, 2011 at St. John’s Good Samaritan Center in Kearney. Funeral services will be Friday, November 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Amherst Community Building in Amherst with the Rev. Dean Pofahl officiating. Burial will follow at Stanley Cemetery near Amherst with Military Rites Provided by the Miller American Legion and the Nebraska National Guard Military Honors Team. Visitation will be Thursday, November 10, 2011 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney and also 1 hour prior to services Friday at the Community Building in Amherst. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services of Kearney are in charge of arrangements. Gerald was born on January 6, 1931 in Amherst, NE to Raymond H. and Mary M. (Harmoney) Rumbeck. He graduated from Amherst High School with the class of 1948. He entered the Army after graduation and served his country while enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Jane K. Cudaback on April 26, 1964 in Riverdale, NE. He attended the Riverdale Christian Church. He farmed his entire life until he was forced to retire due to his health. Farming was very important to Gerald and he greatly enjoyed his life’s work. He was also very involved with the Amherst Tractor Pull and had a love for tractors that continued until his death. Gerald enjoyed playing baseball and softball in his youth. He liked attending Saturday night dances in Miller and also watching his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a member of the Kearney V.F.W. Post #751.
