Louis I. Hannappel, age 75, of Kearney, died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Center in Hastings.Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, September 20, 2010 at the St. James Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Joe Hannappel officiating.A wake service will be Sunday, September 19, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at the St. James Catholic Church.Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.Graveside services will be Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fairbury Cemetery in Fairbury, Nebraska.Military Rites will take place at the Fairbury Cemetery.Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Gerdes Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury.Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.A message of condolence, tribute, or memory may be sent to www.hlmkfuneral.com or Nancy Jurgens 2387 23 Rd. Louis was born June 17, 1935 in Clarks, Nebraska to John and Irene (Supencheck) Hannappel.He graduated from Clarks High School in 1953, and then went to Milford Technical School for two years.He entered the Army in January of 1955 and was later discharged in December of 1956.Louis married Lila Anderson on May 25, 1957 in Clarks, Nebraska.They lived in Lincoln and he managed Buzz Whitehead?s gas station.They moved to Beatrice in 1965 where he owned and operated H and H Oil Company.They moved to Fairbury when they purchased another gas station.He also worked for Rhen Marshall in Beatrice traveling across Nebraska selling farm supplies.He later worked for NAPCO in Beatrice and then retired in 1995.They moved to Kearney in 2000.Louis was a member of St. Michael?s Catholic Church in Fairbury St. James Catholic Church in Kearney, the Fairbury Elks club, the Fairbury V.F.W., and the Knights of Columbus.Louis was an avid Husker fan, enjoyed traveling, golfing, fishing, and playing cards.
