Marcella C. Spellman, 98, of Kearney died Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Rev. Gary Main will officiate and burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. Visitation is planned Tuesday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney or prior to services Wednesday at the church. Marcella was born June 5, 1917 in Wood River, NE to Howard and Viola (Harper) Oswald. She attended school in Wood River, NE except for her freshman year in Russell, KS and graduated from Wood River High School in 1937. On March 20, 1937 she married William E. Spellman in Grand Island, NE. They lived in Wood River, NE, then moved to Central City, NE, Albin, WY and LaGrange, WY, then moved to Oconto, NE then Amherst, NE, then to Kearney, NE. Marcella worked for PFM/Chartwells at the University of Nebraska Kearney from October in1975until retiring in 1996. She was baptized in the Riverdale Methodist Church and transferred her membership to the First United Methodist in Kearney. Marcella enjoyed crocheting, sewing, traveling and visiting with her family. Surviving relatives include sons, Virgil of Kearney, NE and Richard and wife Judy of Kearney, NE; daughters-in-law, Della Spellman of Sun Valley, NV and Carol Spellman of Oconto, NE; Grandchildren, Carlene, Rory, Burke, Jacob, Austin, Kerri Jayne, Cindy, James, Annette, Rob, Angela, Michael, Daniel; numerous great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975; daughter, Marvel Ann Spellman; sons, Carl Spellman and Stanley Spellman; grandson Gregory Spellman, daughter-in-laws, Linda Richter Spellman, Judy Billings-Spellman; sisters, Mildred Spellman and Viola (Viddie) Marshall; brother, Herbert (Buddy) Oswald; and one great grandson, Taylor Spellman.
