Robert W. Hollander

Robert Wayne Hollander, age 66, of Sumner, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 26, 2023, at New Life Church in Kearney with Pastor Dean Buse officiating. Burial will follow at the Armada Cemetery north of Miller. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home and also 1 hour prior to services on Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Bob was born January 15, 1957 to Raymond and Sarah (Gustafson) Hollander in Kearney. On December 20, 1986, he married Maria Louise Papineau. He spent many years working for Butch’s Repair in Sumner as a mechanic. He decided to venture out on his own and opened B&L Auto Repair. After some health issues, he decided to close shop and worked at the local co-op for a few years. Bob’s continuing health issues forced him to leave his job at the co-op. In 2019 Bob pursued his dream to open a BBQ business thus Burning Bush BBQ was born. Bob’s heart to serve had become a reality with his concession trailer and he told his love of God when the name of the business was discussed. In 2019 Bob was also diagnosed with MDS (Leukemia) but he didn’t let that stop him from his dream of smoking meat. He enjoyed camping, fishing, BBQ and serving others. Survivors include his wife Maria (Papineau) Hollander of Sumner; children Lynden (Megan) Hollander of Kearney, Courtney Hollander of Pennsylvania, Melissa Hollander of Sumner, and Samuel (Morgan Swartwood) of Elm Creek; brothers Jim (Betty) Hollander of Columbus, GA., Terry (Chris) Hollander of Thornton, CO., and Steve (Sharon) Hollander of Sumner; sisters Geraldine MikeSell of Atlanta, GA., Ruby Bico of Republican City; brothers-in-law Gary Papineau of Miller and Randy Papineau of Aurora; grandchildren Aryn, Bryden, Cassandra, Jaxson, Easton and Gracelyn; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a brother LeRoy.
