Betty A. Clabaugh, 86, of Kearney died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Prairie View Gardens in Kearney. Funeral Services will be Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Kearney.Rev. Gary Main will officiate.Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell, NE.Visitation is planned Wednesday from 6:30 ? 8:00 p.m. at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney or prior to services Thursday at the church.Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist or to Prairie View Gardens.A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.com.Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. She was born August 31, 1923 in St. Paul, NE to James and Josie (Eret) Bratka.She graduated from Burwell High School in 1941.She taught school for 4 years at Banner School, Midvale School and McIntyre School. On June 5, 1946 she married Vernon Clabaugh at Burwell, NE.They made their home in Burwell for three years where Vern was associated with International Harvester Company.In April of 1949 they bought the International Harvester Dealership in Kearney which they owned and operated for 34 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, Circle II and Spice (widowed Women) at the church.She also belonged to 2 card clubs.Betty volunteered with many organizations wherever she was needed.She never had any children of her own but adopted her nieces and nephews and was very active in their lives.She loved to dance and at the Prairie View Gardens 4th of July celebration last week she danced for the last time. She is survived by her sister; Gloria Beach of Hildreth, NE, brother and sister in law; Frank (Bud) and Lois Bratka of Burwell, NE, nephew?s; Tim and wife Myra Rahmann of Gibbon, NE, Steve Bratka of Ft. Worth, TX, Lex and wife Patti Bratka of Burwell, NE, nieces; Sandy Culler and Fiancée Lynn Tacha of Kearney, and Connie Benjamin of Lincoln, NE.She is also survived by sister in laws; Jean Clabaugh of Kearney, Sarah Clabaugh of McCook, NE, Gladys Ohlman of Kansas and brother in law Jim and wife Marilyn Clabaugh of Burwell, NE.She is also survived by numerous other nieces and nephews.
