Brian M. Landis

Brian Martin Landis, age 57, of Kearney, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 15, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 24, 2023, at Living Faith Fellowship Church with Pastor Paul Stachura officiating. Son of Roger and Patricia Landis, Brian was born on October 4, 1965 in Grand Island, Nebraska. Growing up, Brian was adventurous, entrepreneurial, and always looked out for his siblings. In 1984, he graduated from Kearney High School and was known for his love of 80’s rock music. He met his sweetheart, Tracy, at a dance and they married on February 22, 1992. They settled in Kearney where they welcomed two sons, Spencer and Matthew. The family moved to Ainsworth, Nebraska in 1998 where they enjoyed spending time at the boys’ baseball games, going fishing and sledding behind the 4-wheeler. Road trips across Nebraska provided many opportunities for Brian and his sons to make cherished memories. In 2005, the Landis family moved back to Kearney where being closer to family meant that the Landis home was often filled with family for the holidays or neighbors for summer gatherings. Brian and Tracy loved taking trips together, some of which were “junk jaunts” to find hidden treasures. Thanks to his hard-working, personable nature and love of candy, Brian ran a successful vending machine business. He got to be a real life “Willy Wonka” to all of the kids he knew – they never left Brian’s house empty-handed! He enjoyed spending his free time helping others, taking care of his yard, and doing house projects. He was known for extensively researching products and methods, so the finished product was just right. Most of all, Brian cared deeply for his family and friends and was always the first to offer help with chores like painting, packing, or moving. Though deliberative and thrifty when it came to his own purchases, he was generous with others and worked to find the perfect gifts. Never one to judge others, Brian often sent Bible verses to encourage the people he loved through life’s ups and downs. When anyone arrived at the Landis home, Brian was the first to greet them with a warm hug, which he would repeat as they left. A devoted husband, proud father, genuine friend, and welcoming neighbor – everyone who knew Brian loved him. As family and friends grieve the loss of Brian, they are spurred on by his own motto “let’s go make memories.” He is survived by his wife, Tracy Landis of Kearney; sons, Spencer (Angela) of Omaha and Matthew (Alaysha) of Lincoln; step-father, Robert Lambertus of Kearney; siblings, Christopher Edens (Sima Bavari) of Omaha, Melissa (Murad) Sweiss of Florida, Teresa McWilliams of Florida, and Delilah (James) Wells of California, and Shane Lambertus of Kearney; and by many more family and friends. Brian was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Lambertus; father Roger Landis; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carol and Mort McBride.
