Bruce E. Welty, 80, of Kearney, died Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Broadwell Senior Living in Kearney. Services will be on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney. Burial will follow at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, September 2, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department or Nebraska Kidney Foundation. Bruce was born on May 7, 1944 in Kearney, NE to George and Leona (Matzner) Welty. He attended Kearney High School and graduated with the class of 1962. He married Ruth Ann Beezley on October 18, 1964 in Kearney. Bruce worked in maintenance at Baldwin Filters for 46 years, retiring in 2009. He was a past member of the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department 1971 to 1983 and also the Kearney Eagles Arie 2722. Bruce loved to fly and earned his pilots license in the early 70’s. He enjoyed flying Cessna’s and stopping at small airports around the Kearney area. He enjoyed fishing and also working on small engines. He had a love for John Deere tractors, old stem engine trains and spending time with his family. Bruce had a big heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Bruce is survived by his wife, Ruth of Kearney; daughters, Kim Panowicz and her husband Mark, and Peggy Brown, of Kearney, 7 grandchildren Alex Panowicz of Kearney, Nicholas Schommer III and wife Krisondra of Nebraska City, Sierra Hernandez, Katy Wiemers and husband Christian, and Jessica Brown all of Kearney;10 great grandchildren, Stetson Schommer of Lincoln and Colt Schommer of Nebraska City, Maleigha, Brantley, Maia, & Brady Burzine, Mia & Ezra Hernandez, Seras Wiemers & Ahren Brown all of Kearney; brothers, Gary Welty and his wife Connie and Dan Welty; numerous other extended family members and friends. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; a miscarriage in 1971, and son in law, Tim Brown.
