Caroline F. Kirschner

Caroline F. Kirschner, 88, of Hastings died Thursday, September 21 at Mt. Carmel Home and Rehabilitation Center in Kearney. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elm Creek. Father Jose Chavez will officiate and burial will be Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at the church in Elm Creek. Memorials will be designated at a later date. She was born September 19, 1929 in Butler, Pennsylvania to Florentinus and Freda (Hohneise) Micheli. She grew up in New York and other eastern states. As a teenager, her family moved west, finally settling in Colorado. On September 11, 1948 she married Lawrence Kirschner in Holyoke, Colorado. The couple lived in Colorado, Idaho, and Nebraska. In 1968, she and her husband moved to Ravenna and operated the Four Corners Café and the Big Onion Café. They later moved to Lexington where she cooked at St. Ann’s Catholic School, then to Benkelman where she cooked at Benkelman Public Schools. In 1995 she moved to Hastings and worked as a baker at Hastings College. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings. She enjoyed watching classic movies and spending time with her family, especially playing the card game Shanghai. Surviving relatives include; son, Darrel Kirschner and wife Irene of Elm Creek, NE, daughter, Karen Alex and husband Gary of Greenwood, SC, daughter, Kathleen Fisher and husband Robert of Elm Creek, NE, daughter, Diana Conway and husband David of Luling, TX, son, Norman Kirschner and wife Patricia of Hastings, NE, daughter, Alecia Bramman and husband David of Hastings, NE, and son, Daniel Kirschner and wife Waunie of Clarkson, NE; 17 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; sisters, Delores Kinzie of Lincoln, NE and Linda Hendrickson of Denver, CO; brother Philip Micheli and wife Ellen of Murrieta, CA, sister-in-law Dorothy Kuntz of Loveland, CO and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 2002; infant son, Randy in 1953; grandson D J Conway in 2015; brothers, Robert, Howard, and Norman Micheli and sister, Gladys Hinds.
