Darry Dee Burton, 68, of Gibbon and formerly of Kearney died Friday, June 10, 2011 at the V.A. Hospital in Omaha.Memorial Services will be Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at 56th Street Baptist Church in Kearney with Rev. Marvin Valdois officiating.Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon with military honors provided by the Gibbon American Legion Post #310 and the Navy Funeral Honors Team.There will be no visitation.Memorials are suggested to the family.A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.comHorner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Darry was born on December 12, 1942 in Kearney to Edmond Dee and Georgia Mae (Reynolds) Burton Sheldon.He attended Country School at District 75 near Gibbon and later attended Gibbon Public Schools.He graduated from Axtell High School with the class of 1960.Darry joined the Navy after high school and later worked at the Gibbon Packing Plant, Mother Hull Home in Kearney and also the YRTC in Kearney.He married Joyce Isaac in Gibbon on September 15, 1971.She passed away in 1981.He married Linda Andersen in Kearney on August 7, 1982. He was a member of the 56th Street Baptist Church and attended Faith United Methodist Church in Gibbon. He was also a member of the Kearney American Legion Post #52.He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, reading, and listening to music.Writing was one of Darry?s greatest passions and he recently completed a writing course from the Long Ridge Writers Group.He also enjoyed spending time at Cotton Mill Recreation area with his family.
