Donn A. Carlson, age 68, of Kearney died February 25, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Kearney with Pastor Stan Murdoch officiating.Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery.Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home in Kearney and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.Memorials are planned to the First Baptist Church.A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.com.Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services of Kearney are in charge of arrangements. Donn was born April 10, 1941 in Edmore North Dakota to Carl and Agnes (McKay) Carlson.He graduated from Edmore High School in 1959.He received his bachelor?s degree from Mayville State College in Mayville, North Dakota, his Master?s Degree from the University of North Dakota, and his PhD. of Science Education Degree from the University of Northern Colorado.Donn was a professor of Science Education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.He retired in 2006.He was the science fair director for Mid Nebraska for 20 yrs.Donn belonged to the Nebraska Academy of Science, Nebraska Association of Teachers, and the National Science Teachers Association.He was the recipient of the UNK Pratt Heins Award for outstanding teacher of the year, the NATS Catalyst Award, and the Pillar Award for teaching 40 yrs.Donn was an avid restorer and collector of Model T and Model A cars.He married Dorothy Hegge on Sept. 1, 1963.He married Jeanne Mattson Smith on August 10, 1985 at the First Baptist Church in Kearney.He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Kearney and Promise Keepers.Donn was a devoted father and grandfather who loved watching his children and grandchildren?s sporting events.Donn?s greatest gift to his family was his example of faith ? he was a man of God.
