Dorothy Bliss Shreve, 81, of Naples, Florida and formerly of Kearney died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Naples Community Hospital in Naples, FL after a battle with cancer.. Funeral services will be Friday, April 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney.Rev. Gary Main will officiate and burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery.Eastern Star ritualistic services by Tuscan Chapter #35 of the Order of Eastern Star will be performed at the church.There will be no visitation, the casket will be closed.Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church.A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.com.Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services of Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Born February 7, 1929 in Kearney Nebraska, she was the daughter of Elmer Brun and Ann Brun Wiles. She married Harold "Washer"Bliss on December 27, 1953 in Kearney. Harold passed away in 1994. Dorothy married Donald Shreve on January 6, 2001 and moved to Naples, Florida, Dorothy is survived by her husband, Donald Shreve of Naples: her sons, Kent Bliss of Flower Mound, TX and Rod Bliss of Austin, TX; her stepsons, Donald Shreve Jr. of Charlottesville, VA and Kenneth Shreve of McConnellsburg, PA; her step daughters, Debora Shreve of Rochester, MN, Jayne Liebsch of Maple Grove, MN, and Laura Boehm of Rochester, MN. She has 12 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; and two step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, father, mother, sister; Elaine Brun Ryan, and nephew Jim Ryan. Dorothy was a 1947 graduate of Kearney High School and attended the University of Nebraska Kearney. She was employed by ATT prior to her marriage to Harold. In 1958 she and her family moved to Nebraska City. While in Nebraska City, Dorothy raised her family and later held various positions with the Nebraska City School District and was head librarian for the Nebraska City Morton James Public Library. In 1984, Dorothy and Harold moved back to Kearney where she was a Director at Mid Nebraska Community Services. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church (Kearney, Nebraska City, and Naples), active in United Methodist Women,and was a Den Mother in Cub Scouts. Dorothy was the Worthy Matron of Queen Esther Chapter #1 (Nebraska City) and Tuscan Chapter #35 (Kearney). She was a lifelong Cornhusker football fan. PDF Printable Version
