Gary L. King

Gary L. King, age 93, of Amherst, passed away Monday, July 7, 2025, at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst with Pastor Nicholas Whitney officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page, Trinity Lutheran Church – Amherst NE. Burial will follow at the Stanley Cemetery southeast of Amherst. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2025, at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Gary was born Jan 4, 1932, in Amherst Nebraska to Robert L King and Lenore (Reinertson) King. He was raised in Amherst Nebraska, graduating with the class of 1949. He then attended Kearney State College. Gary was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was confirmed May 27, 1945. On Feb 16, 1952, Gary married Evelyn R Kirschner. They enjoyed many good years together and liked to go to dances. To this union 4 children were born: Carol Ann, Janice Rae, Raymond Lee, and Leland Jay. After Evelyn passed away, he met Joan Richter DeLaet and they married June 19, 1999. Three daughters were added to the family: Patty, Linda and Sally. Joan and Gary enjoyed camping and traveling together. Gary was a member of the Amherst Lions Club for over 60 years and was a charter member of the Amherst Volunteer fire department in 1963. Gary was in the Ag business for years and he and Evelyn ran the Farm and Home store in Amherst until 1983. He also was in the trucking business. Gary enjoyed socializing with family and friends, playing cards and attending his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s events. Gary is survived by his wife Joan; Children: Carol (Doug) Page of Weber KS, Janice (Tim) Taubenheim, Raymond (Linnea) King, Leland King, all of Amherst Nebraska, Patty Reisinger of Kearney and friend Mike Dallmann, Linda (Matt) Nye of Huntington Beach, Sally Mangers (Tim) of Kearney; Grandchildren: Brett Taubenheim, Jody (Scott) Jones, Izaac (Marisa) King, Mori (Greg) Ernst, Connor King, Jeremy and Nathan (Lauren) Page, Matt (Colby) Reisinger, Jackie (Solomon) Kim, Shannon Nye (fiancé Jordan Gold), Mattie Nye, Robert Mangers, Andrew (Brianna) Mangers, Ali (Braiden) Eynetich; Great grandchildren: Kobe and Kyler Jones, Tinley and Toben King, Blake, Jase, Rhett and Jack Ernst, Shelby, Mason and Brody Page, Taylor, Gram, Spencer and Penny Page, Mason Mangers, Teddy Reisinger, Grace Kim, Chloe, Waylon, and Lainey Mangers; Great Great grandchild Giovanni Page; Sister in laws: Donna King, Kathy (Kari) Hoins; Brother in law Ken Richter and Tom (Carol) Richter. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, brother John King, and Great Grandson Wyatt Taubenheim.
