Gary D. Lashley, 66, of Kearney, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Kearney. Rev. Brian Klein will officiate and burial will be at the Armada Cemetery in Miller. Visitation is planned Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney or prior to services Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Lied Transplant Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha or to the family to be designated at a later date. He was born June 12, 1947 in Torrington, WY to Charles and Nora (Howlett) Lashley. He grew up in various towns in Western Nebraska then graduated from Bayard, NE High School. He attended business school in Sidney, NE. He worked at Dinklage Feedlot in Sidney then Lived in Salt Lake City where he drove truck for England Trucking. He later moved to Bertrand, NE and drove truck for Palmer and Merrit Trucking. He retired in 2007 for health reasons. On April 5, 2009 he married Vilene Cherry in Kearney. He attended the Evangelical Free Church and was a member of the Classic Car Club. He enjoyed WWII Planes, Steam Locomotives and Classic Cars. Surviving relatives include his wife of Kearney, mother of El Paso, TX, sons; Kyle and wife Debbie Lashley, Kurtis and wife Jen Lashley, both of Salt Lake City, UT, step daughters; Crystal and husband Mike Duester and Claressa and husband Kevin Millsap, both of Kearney, step son Craig and wife Carolyn Cherry of Beatrice, NE, brothers; Roy and Wife Sarah Lashley of West Virginia, Floyd and wife Beverly Lashley of Bertrand, NE, Roger Lashley of Holdrege, Charles Lashley Jr. of North Platte, NE, Carl Lashley of Holdrege and Walt Lashley of California, sisters; Linda Hood and Nora and husband Frank Hodges both of El Paso, TX and Sharon and husband Howard Smith of Hobbs, NM. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, 10 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandson.
