Gerhard E. Hemmann, age 87, of Amherst, died Tuesday morning at the Mother Hull Home in Kearney.Services will be Friday, May 28, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst with Pastor Bert Mueller officiating.Burial will be at the Immanuel Cemetery Northwest of Amherst.Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Church.The family will be present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home Thursday night.Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Cemetery Fund and the Trinity Lutheran Church.A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.com.Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services are in charge of arrangements. Gerhard was born July 18, 1922 on the family farm northeast of Amherst to Oscar and Anna (Rusch) Hemmann.He was baptized on August 13, 1922 and Confirmed on May 17, 1936.He grew up in the Amherst area and attended District 74 rural school, then attended Christian Day School at Immanuel Lutheran Church northwest of Amherst.After his schooling he started working on the farm.He was a farm boy all his life and raised cattle and hogs.He worked for the sale barn in Kearney for over 40 years and in Lexington at the sale barn for over 20 years.Gerhard was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, church elder, and a longtime Grant Township board member.He enjoyed spending time with his family and attending the grandchildren?s events.He was able to attend his granddaughter?s graduation in May.He also liked to garden and play cards.
