Guadalupe "Lupe" F. Quintana-Vega

Lupe Vega, age 75, of Kearney, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society Prairie View Gardens in Kearney in the comfort of her family’s presence. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 17th 2023, at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with Father Paul Colling officiating. Burial will follow at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m., Sunday, April 16th, with a Christian Wake Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Saint James Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated later. Guadalupe “Lupe” Fuentes Quintana-Vega was born on February 11, 1948 in McCamey, Texas to Meliton Quintana and Consuelo Fuentes. She grew up in a large, hard-working and loving family that eventually moved to Kearney in 1962. She married Romulo Vega Marquez in November 1972, and the couple moved to Chicago for a time, then Odessa (Texas), then returned to the Kearney area. She completed an IBM computer training in the 70s, and attended Central Community College in the 90s. She worked as a nurse’s aide for many years, before owning and operating Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant in the late 1990s. Education and a strong work ethic were two things she believed in, which her children and grandchildren can confirm is true. Lupe found tremendous joy in being alongside her large family and numerous friends. She always had an open door to her home, and she would selflessly help anyone in need, no questions asked. Her smile would light up the room, and the annual Christmas gatherings she hosted were legendary. Lupe is a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney. Her faith in God and Jesus Christ have always been the foundation of who she was as a person. She always led with love and faith. She is survived by her sons, Andrew Vega and RJ Vega; her daughters, Oliva Vega and Malena Vega-Seely; her grandchildren, Jacob, Taylor, Paloma, Donnie, Joshua, Cielo, Alícia, and Jonah; brothers Raymond and Cruz Quintana; sisters Margie and Lillian Quintana. She is preceded in death by her father, Meliton and her mother, Consuelo; and her brothers, Johnny, Tony, Ernest, and Ysmael Quintana, and brother Pete Ruiz.
