Harold L. Newman, 76, of Kearney died Sunday, May 22, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Kearney.Rev. Gary Main will officiate and burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery.Visitation is planned Tuesday from 5:00 ? 7:00 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney or one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or the American Lung Association.A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.com.Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services of Kearney are in charge of arrangements. He was born June 19, 1934 in Mason City, NE to Harold and Reva (Baillie) Gardner Newman.He grew up and attended school in Omaha, NE. On July 26, 1953 he married Irene Dorothy at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney.He was employed at Speak Motor Company for 23 years then at Inter Motion Manufacturing, for 13 years.In 1999 he started his own sharpening business and sharpened ?anything? that was dull. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.He donated blood regularly to the American Red Cross for many years, taught all of his children to water ski, enjoyed camping and fishing, and liked to watch his children and grandchildren in their sporting activities. Harold was never without an animal friend, having many pets over the years. He is survived by his wife: Irene of Kearney, daughters: Reva and husband Phil Vandevoorde of Wahoo, NE; De and husband Rob Abbott of Grand Island, NE, Rhonda and husband Kirk Ahrens of Kearney, NE, Donna Newman of Gaylord, MI, sons: Dan and wife Nancy Newman of Kearney, NE, Rich Newman and Jenna Harrington of Lee?s Summit, MO.He is also survived by grandchildren: Chris, Cory, Nathan and Curtis Vandevoorde; Julie and Nick Newman; Alisha Abbott, Ashley, Ann, and Ariel Ahrens; Aaron, Jenny and Justin Beach; Paige and Cole Newman. 8 Great Grandchildren, sister; Patricia Burkman of Houston, TX and brother; Howard Newman of Davey, NE He is preceded in death by his parents.
