Helen M. Glatter

Helen M. Glatter, 88, of Amherst, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 2, 2014 at 10:30 am at the St. James Catholic Church in Kearney with Fr. Jose Chavez, Fr. Joe Hannappel, and Fr. Alex Brozych officiating. Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the St. John Capistran Catholic Church in Amherst from 6:00 to 7:00 pm with a wake service at 7:00 pm with Deacon Bill O’Donnell. Memorials are designated to the St. John Capistran Catholic Church, St. James Catholic Church, or the Kearney Catholic High School Foundation. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney are in charge of arrangements. Helen was born October 17, 1925 in Valley County to Andrew and Clara (Czuba) Kusek. She graduated from Ord High School in 1942. She attended one year of college, and then taught country school near Ft. Hartsuff. Helen married Donald V. Glatter on June 10, 1947 in Elyria. They lived and worked on the family farm northeast of Amherst for 67 years. Helen was a member of St. John Capistran, D.C.C.W., extension club, and Amherst Lions Club. She loved spending time with her family, especially grandchildren, making pressed flower cards, baking, gardening, quilting, sewing, playing cards, making banners and garments for the church, making corn husk dolls, reading the bible, teaching CCD,and attending ecumenical bible study. She was a uniquely creative person. Helen is survived by husband Don Glatter of Amherst, NE, sons; L.D. Glatter and his wife Becky of Lawrence, KS, David Glatter of Amherst, NE, John Glatter and his wife Barbara of Arvada, CO, Daniel Glatter and his wife Henrietta of Kearney, NE, Mark Glatter and his wife Kathy of Kearney, NE, Michael Glatter and his wife Diana of San Diego, CA, Matthew Glatter and his wife Crystal of Sumner, NE, Donald Glatter and his friend Christina Johnson of Anchorage, AK, Christopher Glatter and his wife Stacie of Gretna, NE, daughters; Trish Glatter of Las Vegas, NV, Mary Jo Sumrall and her husband Steve of Fraser, CO, Anita Trimble and her husband Layne of Kearney, NE, Helen Glatter of Amherst, NE, Susan Gallagher and her husband John of Salem, OR, 24 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, brother Floyd Kusek and his wife Betty of Boring, OR, sisters; Sr. Lenore Kusek of Chicago, IL, Sister Clara Frances Kusek of Chicago, IL, sisters-in-law; Ardath Kusek of Burwell, NE, Evelyn Kusek of Ord, NE, Gen Kusek of Seward, NE, Sr. Ann Glatter of Concordia, KS, brother-in-law Tony Hittner of Salina, KS Helen was preceded in death by her daughter Margret Glatter, granddaughter Mary Kaitlyn Glatter, 4 brothers Henry, Adrian, Bernard, and Andrew Kusek, and 3 sisters Marie Suminski, Mildred Kusek, and Sr. Bonaventure Kusek.
