Ilis J. Burr, age 82, of Gibbon, died Monday morning, May 20, 2013 at St. Luke’s Good Samaritan Center in Kearney. Funeral services will be Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith United Church in Gibbon with Pastor Cathy Cole and Rev. Larry Michael Rush officiating. Burial will follow services at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. Visitation will be Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Faith United Church in Gibbon and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Memorials are suggested to the Faith United Church in Gibbon or the Gibbon Public Schools Athletic Department. Ilis was born on February 25, 1931 in Sumner, NE to Thomas and Agnes (Trumbull) Bowden. She attended school in Sumner and graduated from Sumner High School. She married Robert W. Burr on December 26, 1948 in Sumner. Robert and Ilis settled on a farm in February of 1949 on Kilgore Island near Gibbon, Nebraska. Ilis was always very involved in the day to day operations of the farm as she could often be found helping with everything from the fieldwork to the wonderful meals that were prepared. Ilis volunteered as a 4 H leader for many years. She rarely found herself with an abundance of extra time but she did enjoy tending to her garden, fishing, camping, crafts and cards. Ilis made certain that all 6 of her daughters learned how to cook and sew, a gift that they will always treasure. Family was very important to her especially time spent with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ilis and Robert also enjoyed attending Gibbon sporting events together and were awarded the first ever Gibbon Booster Honorary Fans Award. Ilis was also dedicated member of Faith United Church in Gibbon. Surviving relatives include her husband, Robert W. Burr of Gibbon, NE; Daughters, Vickie Power and Husband Lee of Gibbon; Trudy Plautz and Husband Dean of Gibbon, NE; Cindy Nickel and Husband Frank of Gibbon, NE; Brenda Bendfeldt and Husband Bob of Gibbon, NE; Becky Densberger and Husband Don of Malcolm, NE; Stephanie Johannsen and Husband Tim of Gibbon, NE; Twin Sister, Ila Roper and Husband Zale of Amherst, NE; 17 Grandchildren; 16 Great Grandchildren Ilis was preceded in death by her Brother, Thomas LaVern Bowden and Sisters, Pearl Vollmer and Myrna Todd PDF Printable Version
