Laura R. Deets

Laura R. Deets, age 67, of Pleasanton, passed away Saturday, August 31st, 2024 at Mount Carmel Home Keens Memorial in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 5, 2024 at the Pleasanton Evangelical Free Church with Jim Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasanton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home. Laura was welcomed into Heaven on Saturday, August 31, 2024 by her loving Savior and friend, Jesus, who we are sure had His arms open wide with a smile on His face to greet her and saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Laura had a strong faith that she was happy to share with others, but it became even stronger during her 5-year battle with cancer. Even though she was burdened with this diagnosis she always remained positive, knowing that either outcome of the transplant would give her a win-win situation she would either beat the cancer and get more time with her family or she would finally meet Jesus face to face. She didn’t have just one favorite Bible verse, but rather many, but one that stood out during this earthly trial was “the joy of the Lord is my strength”. In the words of verse 5 of Amazing Grace, “Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, and mortal life shall cease, I shall possess within the veil, A life of joy and peace.” Laura Ruth Deets was born on August 14th, 1957 at St. Francis in Grand Island, NE to Lloyd and Barbara (Smith) Dietrich. She was baptized as an infant at EUB church in Aurora, NE. She attended Marquette school in Marquette, Nebraska and graduated from Marquette High School in 1975. Laura was married to Tom J.R. Deets on July 10th 1975 at EUB church in Aurora, NE. She was a supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her children and granddaughters were her pride and joy. Survivors include her husband, Tom; sons, Thaddeus (Hillary) Deets of Pleasanton and Russell Deets of Grand Island; granddaughters; Ava Grace Deets, Autumn Jo Deets and Ashtyn Hayes Deets, all of Pleasanton; sister, Brenda (Don) Wohlgemuth of Funk, NE; brother, Barry (Rhonda) Dietrich of Marquette, NE; brother-in-law, Al (Patty) Deets of Miami, OK; sister-in-law, Cindy (Dave) Kaestner of Beatrice, NE; many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, and son, Chad Deets.
