Lonnie W. Shiers

Lonnie W. Shiers, 67 of Gibbon, died Thursday, November 20, 2014 at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney. Services will be Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church in Gibbon. Pastor Cathy Cole will officiate and burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon. Visitation with family will be Monday, November 24, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the church and also one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney are in charge of arrangements. Lonnie was born on April 25, 1947 in Broken Bow, NE to Clifford W. and Lois A. (Johansen) Shiers. He attended Gibbon High School and graduated with the class of 1965. He married Kindra Mead on December 18, 1989 in Minden, NE. As a lifelong farmer, Lonnie enjoyed several aspects of the outdoors including hunting, trap shooting, fishing and snowmobiling. He also had many hobbies namely gun collecting, reloading, woodworking, gardening and raising pheasants. He enjoyed attending auctions and collecting antiques and old toy farm equipment. Family was the most important part of Lonnie’s life, especially his children and grandchildren. Surviving relatives include his Wife, Kindra Shiers of Gibbon; Mother, Lois Shiers of Kearney; Children and Spouses, Hydie Shiers of Kearney, Matt Shiers and his wife Bobbie of Gibbon, Heather Shiers of Scottsdale, AZ, Tyler Shiers of Gibbon, Westley Shiers and his wife Audrey of Kearney; Sisters, Dianna Frew of Gibbon, Karen Shiers of Kearney, Pam and her husband Steve Rasmussen of Gibbon; Brothers, Bill and his wife Lynn Shiers of Gibbon, David and his wife Carol Shiers of Gibbon; Grandchildren, Brady, Jacobi, Gage, McKenna, Alexis and Harlo; Parents in law, Marlene Mead of Gibbon and Lloyd Mead of Kearney; Brothers and Sisters in law, Kalvin and Marilyn Mead of Shelton, Kenny and Diane Mead of Holdrege; Several Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and other extended family.
