Lorin L. Elliott

Lorin L. Elliott, age 99, of Kearney, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society Prairie View Gardens. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 6, 2023 at the Kearney eFree Church with Pastor Tim Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at the Kearney Cemetery with military honors provided by the Nebraska National Guard Military Honors Team, the Pleasanton Leo & Clinton Krotz VFW Post #9481, and the Pleasanton Roy Eaton American Legion Post #321. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5th at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society Prairie View Gardens or AsceraCare Hospice. Lorin was born to Walter and Irene (Parker) Elliott on March 28, 1923 at Kearney, NE. He grew up in the Havens Chapel area North of Kearney and attended schools in that area, graduating from Pleasanton High School in 1940. He farmed with his father until entering the Army. He married Helen Marshall at Eddyville, NE. on February 4th, 1945. To this union were born 2 sons, Terry and Gary. After his military service, he came back to the home place where he and Helen spent the next 52 years. They retired in Shelton, NE. and lived there for the next 10 years. He came back to help his son from time to time. Helen passed away on May 27th, 1999, so he built a new home and moved back to the farm. Lorin was a charter member of the VFW Post #9481 at Pleasanton, NE., and has been a life member since 1985. He and Helen enjoyed camping in their 5th wheel trailers, spending several winters in different parts of Arizona. He enjoyed doing wood carving while down there, and because he liked working on tractors and machinery, he started restoring some as time permitted. He received his 50 year pin as a member of the Methodist Church in 1980, and his 75 year pin in 2008. He was also the first 4H leader of the Pleasant Hill Livestock Club. Survivors include his sons Terry (Dianne) and Gary (Deb) Elliott of Kearney; grandchildren Jennifer (Nick) Heetderks of Adams, NE., Kim (Tim) Henze of Omaha, Rich (Karla) Elliott of Kazakhstan, Heather (Jeff) Neumann of Collinsville, OK., Jodi (Michael) Garretson of Grand Island, and Ben (Jamie) Elliott of West Point, NY.; 16 great grandchildren; special friend June Billesbach; several nieces; nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen; a brother; and two sisters.
