M. Jean Hill

M. Jean Hill, 86, of Kearney died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at her daughters house. Funeral services will be Monday, June 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Kearney. Father Jerry Ness will officiate and burial will be at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. with a sharing time to follow at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney. Memorials can be sent to the family and will go toward Al Anon books, the Safe Center, & Alzheimer’s Association. She was born June 22, 1926, in Creighton, Nebraska to Max and Florence May. On May 29, 1949, she married Billie"Bill" Hill in McCook, Nebraska. He died August 28, 2004. Surviving relatives include, daughters; Janet Irlmeier and husband Jack, Jill Sage and husband Pete both of Kearney, Nancy Anderson and husband Bill of Orleans, NE, Peggy Verbeck and husband Monty of Funk, son; Jerry Hill and wife Pam of Kearney; grandchildren; Jack Theis and wife Rhonda, Angela Nelson and husband Mick, Kurt Nelson and special friend Danelle Collins, Ali Adams and husband Arron, and Colton Hill, great grandchildren; Callie Nelson, Easton and MaKynlee Adams, brother; Rex May and wife Linda of Los Angels, twin sister; Joan Hills of Chicago, IL, and sister in law; Bettie Gull of McCook, NE She is also survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, friends, and special friend Leslie Felker. She graduated from White River High School in White River, South Dakota, in 1944 and attended college in McCook, Nebraska. She received her Bachelor of Science from Kearney State Teachers College in 1948 and was affiliated with Delta Phi Beta Chi Omega Sorority. Jean and Bill moved from McCook to Kearney in 1959 and raised six children. She taught physical education at Kearney Junior High School from 1961 1985 before retiring. She previously taught in McCook and Shelton. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Nebraska State Education Association, Kearney Teachers Association, Kearney State Alumni, and Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Good Samaritan Hospital Volunteer Services League and volunteered many years in the Sure Cure Gift Shop and Admissions. Jean enjoyed everyday life in Kearney with daily walks, crossword puzzles, bridge, card club, reading, and Al Anon meetings. She also enjoyed bowling, shopping, and Husker football. She documented her life and the lives of family and friends by writing poetry. Her greatest joy in life was centered around home, family, and friends. Her home was a gathering place where everyone was welcome. She handled both good and bad situations with kindness, a sense of humor, and a positive outlook on life. She was an inspiration to those that knew her. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son Mike Hill. PDF Printable Version
