Marian G. Brown

Marian G. Brown, 91, Fremont, Formerly of Kearney, died Sunday, July 3, 2016 at Providence Place Assisted Living in Fremont. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., July 8, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church with Alan Davis officiating. Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services, and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, George and Marian Brown Biology and Life Science Scholarship Fund established at University of Nebraska Foundation-Kearney, or Rowe Sanctuary. Marian was born August 4, 1924 in Comstock, Nebraska to Cecil and Rosie (Krikac) Wardrop. She grew up in Comstock and graduated from Ord High School in 1941. She earned her teaching degree from Kearney State College. Marian married George Brown June 1, 1947 in Kearney. Marian taught 8th grade Earth Science for Kearney Public Schools until retiring in 1983. Marian was a member of the Kearney First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, serving as chairwoman of United Methodist Women Circle. She was a member of Chi Omega and Mortar Board at Kearney State College. As well as President of Kearney Symphony, AS P.E.O Chapter, Kearney Quilt Guild, Monday Book Club; Delta Kappa Gamma, Crossroad Quilt Guild, Big Bend Audubon Society, NE Ornithologists Union, N.S.E.A, K.E.A, Jr. High Science Teacher, Science Club Sponsor, 4-H Leader, Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader, Campfire Leader; Kearney Library Board Member(10 years when the new library was built), volunteer at M.O.N.A., Frank House, Trails and Rails, Program Presenter in Kearney and surrounding communities, Nebraska State Quilt Guild, gardener—Sertoma yard of the month winner, Kearney Hub Freedom Award winner, Nebraska District Family Award (Methodist Church). Marian also enjoyed traveling, cooking, entertaining friends and family, and getting together with her family during holidays. Marian is survived by her sons, Gary Brown and wife Jan of Waterloo, NE, Randy Brown of Estes Park, CO; daughters Linda Sabatier and husband Jim of Oxford, MS, Laurie Morales and husband Marco of Kearney, NE; sister Maxine Wardrop of Ravenna, NE; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Marian was preceded in death by her husband.
