Marion D. Holmes, age 81, of Miller, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Jewell Cemetery near Sumner. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 2nd at the funeral home. Marion Dorothy Shears was born January 7, 1943 to Vernon and Cornelia Jean (Florea) Shears in Thedford, NE. She was the eldest of 6 children. She spent her childhood years in Thedford, NE. Her family moved to Broken Bow in 1955. Marion was baptized on June 3, 1962 in Thedford, NE. While growing up, Marion helped her mother care for her 5 siblings, two of which were much younger. Marion graduated in 1961 from Broken Bow High School. She attended Kearney State College studying to be a teacher. On May 18, 1963, Marion married Jon Holmes at her parent’s home in Broken Bow, NE. Later in life, she returned to CCC college to become an LPN. She cared for others for many years, retiring in 2015. Marion left this earth to rest in the arms of her Savior on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024, at her home in Miller, NE. Marion will be remembered as a hard worker, a loyal friend, and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Left to pass on Marion’s legacy of faith and love of family is her husband, Jon, along with their children Cletus (Sherri) Holmes of Minden and Zoe Holmes of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Grandchildren: Jessica (Shawn) Smith of Ravenna, NE, Kaylinda (Jarod) DeTurk of Overton, NE, Austun O’Meara of Miller, NE, Kisha (Estrella) O’Meara of Miller, NE, Harrison (Jymmylee) Holmes of Minden, NE, and Zerron (Cambrie) Schroder of Kearney, NE. Great Grandchildren: Taber, Christopher, Cianna, Graysin, & Hunter Smith; Lawson, Lennuxe, Lexlun, Lacen, & Lyndrielle DeTurk; Avery & Braylin Hahn; and Oliver & Anya Holmes. Laverna Trotter, Claude Shears, Jerry (Natalie) Shears, and Tammy (Ray) Perry; Fred Holmes, and Ann (Ed) VonHeeder, along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Cherished friends: Leota Wilkinson, Jo Hennigan, and Marylou McFarland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon & Cornelia Shears, Jon’s parents, Weldin & Hazel Holmes; sister, Nellie Owen; brother-in-law, Duane Owen, and brother-in-law Ted Trotter.
