Mary C. Kalb

Mary C. Kalb, 69, Kearney gained her angel wings at home on May 25, 2016, after a very courageous five year fight with ovarian cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Hannappel officiating, and burial at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Monday, May 30, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to St. James Catholic Church, Cottonmill Park, and American Cancer Society. She was born to the late Mary and Lawrence Tincher, April 15, 1947, in Dodge City, KS. Mary graduated from McCook High School in 1965 and received a Bachelor of Science from Kearney State College in 1979. She married James Kalb in 1966, they lived in Chappell and McCook before relocating to Kearney in 1970. Mary was a beautician instructor at Kearney Beauty Center until she became a CPA in 1980. She worked at McDermott & Miller, became the first female partner and retired in 2014. Mary contributed her time, talents and great ideas to several local organizations such as Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce, Kearney Library Board, Kearney Business & Strategic Development Planning Committee, Kearney Little League Board, St. James Catholic Church Finance Committee, Kearney Housing Agency, Kearney Housing Development Corporation, Autumn Village Board and many committees while on the Good Samaritan Hospital Board. Mary got much of her joy spending time with family, attending grandkids activities, cooking, and jogging/walking with nature along the trail to Cottonmill Park. Her favorite flowers included the many colors of daylilies. She was well known in the community as the jogging white haired lady! Mary is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jim; sons and daughters-in-law; Greg & Tonya Kalb, of Omaha; Mike & Shannan Kalb of Kearney; and five grandchildren, Tanner & Tyler, of Omaha; Easton, Lukas and Marissa of Kearney. She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law; Larry and Lynda Tincher of Broken Bow; Charles and Elsie Tincher of Wichita, KS; and Harold and Mary Tincher of Salt Marsh, MA; and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, James.
