Milton Hawkins

Milton Hawkins, age 97, of Kearney, formerly of Axtell, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024 at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney. Memorial Services will be on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the chapel inside the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney. Chaplain Michael Koenig will officiate. The family will greet friends 1 hour prior to services at the chapel. The family request casual attire for those attending. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery with military honors provided by the Kearney American Legion Post #52, the Kearney V.W.F. Post #759 and the United States Navy Funeral Honors Team. Milton was born on November 9, 1927 to William and Alva (Munson) Hawkins on the family farm near Odessa, NE. He attended Kearney High School in Kearney. Milton served his country as a member of the United States Navy during WWII while stationed in the South Pacific. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he was united in marriage to Freda Nine on August 6, 1950 in Kearney. Two daughters were born to this union, Linda and Kathy. Milton worked as a salesman for Websters Tire and Battery. He later worked for Fairmont Foods and Kitty Clover for over 29 years. The family moved to Holdrege in 1973 and later to Axtell after his retirement in 1987. Milton and Freda worked at NTV in retirement for over 12 years. Surviving relatives include his wife, Freda of Kearney; daughter, Linda and Jarold Jacobsen of St. Paul, NE; son in law, Duane Freeze of Pleasanton, NE; brother, Lyle Hawkins of Bradenton, FL; sister, Darlene Seagraves of DeLand, FL; grandchildren, Amy (Nick) Brown of Curtis, Adam (Chris) Jacobsen of St. Paul and Hayley (Monty) Guthard of Pleasanton, NE; great grandchildren, Connor (Emily) Cottrell of Washington, D.C., Alissa Cottrell of Lincoln, Joseph Brown of Lincoln, Madison Brown of Curtis, NE, Ethan Brown of Curtis, NE, Dakota Franks (fiancé Andi Magnussen) of Kearney, Paden Jacobsen of St. Paul, NE and Harper Guthard of Pleasanton, NE; several other extended family and friends.
