Richard L. Peterson, 64, of Kearney died Friday, July 09, 2010 at his home in Kearney. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney.Rev. Richard was born October 2, 1945 in Kearney to Jack and Beulah (Paul) Peterson.He grew up in Kearney and graduated from Kearney High School in 1963.He received his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska in 1970 then worked as a Traffic Engineer for the Nebraska Department of Roads.He received his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A & M University in 1973.He also received his Urban Transportation Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University and did Postgraduate work at Texas A & M University. He was the Chief Engineer for the City of Fort Worth, TX from 1973 ? 1977 then was the Transportation Planning Coordinator from 1977 ? 1978.He was the Assistant Director of Transportation from 1978 ? 1980.He worked as an assistant Research Engineer for the Texas Transportation Institute in College Station Texas from 1981 ? 1986 then became Transportation Director for Dallas County, Texas until his retirement for health reasons in 1997 and he moved to Kearney. He was a member of the Institute of Traffic Engineers and Theta Zi.He was honored as Engineer of the Year by Texite which is the Texas division of the Institute of Traffic Engineers.
