Markus, age 89, of Kearney died Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Josh Brown officiating.Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery.Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 to 5:00 at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.Memorials are planned to the St. James Catholic Church.Wake services will be Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. James Catholic Church.A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.comHorner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Bob was born March 2, 1922 in Kearney to John A. and Martha (Habecker) Markus.He attended Glenwood School until the 8th grade and then he graduated from Longfellow High School in Kearney in 1939.Bob married Milda Hartman on June 14, 1943 in Kearney.They lived on their farm northeast of Kearney where he raised crops and livestock.He retired from farming in 2004.Bob was a member of AA, the Knights of Columbus and a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church.He enjoyed his family and his many friends in the community.
