Steven J. ?Steve? Kominek, 50 of Colorado Springs, CO and formerly of Kearney died Friday, September 17, 2010 at his home in Colorado Springs. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, September 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney.Father Mike McDonald will officiate and burial will be at the Minden Cemetery.Visitation is planned Sunday from 4:00 ? 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 ? 8:00 p.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney.Memorials are suggested to the University of Nebraska Medical Center Heart Transplant Program.A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.com.Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services of Kearney are in charge of arrangements. He was born March 11, 1960 in Lincoln, NE to Darrell and Helen (Hemberger) Kominek.He grew up in Kearney where he spent the first 20 years of his life.He went to Park Elementary and graduated from Kearney High School.He graduated from the University of Nebraska Kearney with a comprehensive major in computer Science and obtained his Masters degree in Computer Science from Loyola Marymount University. He was currently Vice President for Northrop Grumman?s Air & Missile Defense Systems in Colorado Springs, CO.During his career with Northrop Grumman, Steve has held a number of management positions in Northern Virginia and Southern California.Prior to moving to Colorado Springs he was Sector Director for Northrop Grumman.Steve has held various director positions in Northrop Grumman spanning business development, capture, and program management of complex systems development, integration, and operations contracts in a 28 year career with Northrop Grumman.Steve began his career with TRW Defense Systems Group in Redondo Beach, CA working the Peacekeeper Missile Targeting Program. He married Patricia Murray on September 8, 2008 in Virginia. He was an avid skier and loved to travel the world with his fur babies (his dogs Cali and Dakota) eat great food and drink great wine.He returned to Kearney at least once a year to hunt with his dad.He moved to Colorado Springs 2 years ago. Surviving relatives: Wife : Pat Murray Kominek of Colorado, Springs, CO Father : Darrell Kominek of Kearney, NE Sister : Barbara Hoyt and husband Steve and nieces Sara and Shelby of Minden, NE Mother in law Ursula Meininger of Ober Ramstadt Germany Brother in law; Thomas Meininger and hundreds of aunts, uncles and cousins.
