Terry L. Smith, 65, of Kearney died Monday, February 4, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Kearney. Rev. Michelle Reed will officiate. Burial with military rites provided by the Kearney American Legion Post #52, Kearney V.F.W. Post #759 and the Nebraska National Guard Military Honors Team will be at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney or prior to services Thursday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Faith United Methodist Church or to the Kearney Animal Shelter. He was born October 4, 1947 in Kearney to Elmer and Marvene (Nau) Smith. His father died and he was raised by his mother and step father; Martin (Marty) Lentz. He grew up in Kearney and graduated from Kearney High School in 1965 then attended Kearney State College. He joined the Nebraska National Guard where he served his country. On September 13, 1966 he married Linda Roberts in Kearney. He worked at the Kearney Post Office then later worked for the City of Kearney, Morris Press then worked at the Kearney Target Store until retiring. After retirement he worked part time at Mirror Image Car Wash. He later married Mae Ella Coffin March 9, 1996 in Reno, NV. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and enjoyed assembling model cars, John Wayne movies and getting together with friends and family. He was an animal lover and especially liked his dog Odie. Survivors include his wife; Mae Ella Smith of Kearney, son; Jeffrey Smith and wife Patty and grandchildren; Nicolas and Nathan, daughter; Robin Gannon of Wood River and grandchildren; Blake Johnson, Elizabeth Gannon and Grant Gannon, step sons; Howard Coffin and wife Diane of Omaha, NE and granddaughter Emily, Kevin Coffine of Wichita, KS and Jake Coffin and wife Leanne of Cary, NC and grandchildren; Madison and Jacob, sister; Sherry Smith of Kearney.
