Todd Lee Richards, 47, of Kearney, Nebraska passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones after a long, grueling, astronomical battle with cancer on August 8, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 at Grace Fellowship in Kearney, Nebraska at 11:00 am. Casual attire is encouraged. Todd was born in Cozad, NE to William (Arty) and Leatha Richards on August 9th, 1978. He grew up in Kearney and Elm Creek. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, camping, and discovering new places. He also enjoyed watching Nascar races and watched them at every opportunity. He also liked indy cars and got to enjoy one of the races in person. He attended Kearney High School and continued his education by completing his GED. In 1997, he met Skye Prather, giving him his first experience in becoming a father by helping her raise her two boys, Anthony Prather of Loomis, Nebraska, and KC Prather of Kearney, Nebraska. A short few years later in March of 2000, Todd and Skye welcomed their first baby girl, Shae Prather (Diaz) of Gibbon, Nebraska. Todd and Skye then married in 2002. In December of 2005 they welcomed their second baby girl, Samantha Prather of Gibbon, Nebraska. Todd and Skye later divorced. In April 2011, Todd met his soon-to-be wife, Desiree Richards (Seip) of Kearney, Nebraska, they then married in April of 2017. They started their journey of life together by taking trips, going to concerts, cruising around to view new scenery, and spending time with his family and friends. His second greatest joy was being promoted from dad and father to grandpa to his first grandchild, being his grandson, Landon Prather of Gibbon, Nebraska in March of 2017, and a granddaughter, Josephina Prather-Diaz of Gibbon, Nebraska in November of 2018. A short while later he received a devastating Stage 4 terminal Colon Cancer diagnosis in April of 2020. He had said he wanted to fight to live, and live, he did. A new baby girl was born in June of 2020 that became known as his bonus daughter, Jasmine Wideman. Life continued to get better with treatment throughout all of his good days and his bad days, as he continued to fight for a good quality of life every day. He continued enjoying relationships with his wife, mother, daughter, grandkids, bonus daughter and his beloved cat, Punk and dog, Buddy. Though his time here with us had been far too short, Todd will always know how much he was loved and cherished by those close to him, and all of those who had the opportunity to cross his path. Taking the legacy with him of kindness, smart aleck personality, and many crazy and cherished memories. Todd preceded into death by infant, Jessie (2002), infant, Tristin (2005), infant, Robin (2015), Brother, Willie Richards (2020), and 3 unborn grandchildren (2025)
