Vera Dell Erickson

Vera Dell Erickson, 85, of Holdrege, formerly of Axtell, died Monday, October 31, 2011 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Funeral services will be Friday, November 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Keene Evangelical Free Church in Keene. Rev. Matt Snell will officiate and burial will be in the Keene Cemetery. Visitation is planned Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney with the family present to greet friends and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are suggested to Keene Evangelical Free Church, the Axtell Bethany Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, or Christian Homes in Holdrege. She was born January 19, 1926 in Nance County, NE to Gilbert and Theresa (Fertig) Johnson. She graduated from Albion High School in 1942 then attended and graduated from Methodist Nursing School in Omaha, NE in 1946. She worked as Registered Nurse at the Brewster Hospital in Holdrege, the Holdrege Medical Clinic, and Christian Homes in Holdrege. On September 30, 1950 she married Rodney M. Erickson in Holdrege. They lived in Axtell. Vera Dell was a member of the Keene Evangelical Free Church, the Bethany Lutheran Church near Axtell, and the Axtell V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was an active church member and enjoyed being involved in the Axtell community. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and mending clothes for her family and friends. She also enjoyed flowers, gardening, canning, and was always willing to bake food for her children’s activities. In her younger years she loved to roller skate.
