Verna I. Nuttelman, age 88, of Kearney, formerly of Amherst, died Friday, May 14, 2010 at the St. Luke?s Good Samaritan Village in Kearney.Funeral Service will be Monday, May 17, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst with Pastor Bert Mueller officiating.Burial will be at the Stanley Cemetery.Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.The family will greet friends Sunday evening at the Funeral Home during visitation.Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Amherst Volunteer Fire Department, and Asera Care Hospice.A message of condolence, tribute or memory can be left at www.hlmkfuneral.comHorner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services of Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Verna was born July 25, 1921 on the family farm five miles north of Amherst to August J. and Ella (Steinhauser) Maul.Verna was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church and then confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1935.She graduated from Amherst High School in 1938.Verna then attended and graduated from Beauty School in Grand Island in 1940.She married Gerald Nuttelman on October 12, 1941.Verna and her husband moved to the farm in 1946, and farmed south of Amherst.She moved into Prairie View Gardens in Kearney in 2008.She was a Lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and taught Sunday school for 25 years.Verna was also a member of the Ladies Aid and Altar Guild at the church.She was a member of the Buffalo County Extension Group for 60 plus years.
