Virginia L. Stamm

Virginia L. Stamm, 88, of rural Eddyville died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at her residence south of Eddyville. Funeral services will be Monday, July 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Eddyville with the Rev. Douglas Jones officiating. Burial will be at Stanley Cemetery in Amherst. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday with family present at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney and one hour prior to service time at the church. She was born November 25, 1925 to Donald and Mabel (Whitesel) Harris at the family farm west of Amherst. She grew up in the Amherst area and graduated from Amherst High School in 1942. Virginia then attended Kearney State Teachers College and received her Teachers Certificate and then taught rural school for a couple of years. On December 16, 1944 she married Donald Stamm at her parents’ farm near Amherst. The couple lived in the Amherst area until 1954 when they moved to their farm south of Eddyville. She and her husband farmed their entire lives in the area. She was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Eddyville. She was also active in the community throughout her years and involved in many community activities. She enjoyed morning coffee with her best friends, Bernadine Sullivan and Ruth Yentes, along with many other friends throughout the last 60 years. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities and shared many cat stories with them, especially Heather. She continued to care for her cats until the last few weeks of her life, but she especially enjoyed her cat Mocha. Most of all she had a great love of family and her strong faith assured her that a better life was ahead of her. Survivors include her son Douglas Stamm and wife Diane of Eddyville; daughters, Sandi Bentley and husband Randy of Miller, NE and Vikki Stamm and husband Rodney Kunard of Amherst, NE; grandchildren, Hillary Bentley of Elwood, NE and Clint and Heather Bentley of Miller, NE; step grandchildren, Mindy Lavicky and husband Brian of Axtell, NE, Greg Penny and wife Echo of Wallace, NE; step great grandchildren, Taaron and Kolton Lavicky and Riley and Kora Penny; sisters-in-law, Irma Marshall of Elm Creek, NE and Alba Stamm of Spokane, WA. She was preceded in by her husband in 2007; sister, Rubye Faye Stubbs and 3 brothers-in-law.
