Donald ?Don? D. Springer, age 83, of Kearney, died Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.Funeral Services will be Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney with Pastor Dean Pofahl officiating.Burial will follow at Kearney Cemetery with Military Rites by the Kearney American Legion Post #52, the Kearney V.F.W. Post #759 and the Nebraska National Guard Military Honors Team.Visitation will be Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 5:00 ? 7:00 p.m. at the Mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Don was born on September 20, 1927 in Kearney to Frank A. and Iva (Pettit) Springer.He attended school in Kearney and later earned his GED.Don served his country in the Merchant Marines and also the United States Army during WWII.He married Marie Graves on January 22, 1946.They divorced.Don married Edna I. Doudna on October 28, 1955 in Franklin, NE.Don and Edna founded Springer Roofing in Kearney in 1956 and owned the business for 45 years.Don was forced to retire due to his health and the business was continued by his son, Mike.He enjoyed his free time at his cabin at Sherman Reservoir fishing and boating with his family and friends.He was a member of the VFW and also the Eagles Club.Don enjoyed woodworking and also making Yard signs.
