Glen L. Schroeder, 93, of Kearney, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at the Kearney Regional Medical Center. Private family services will be held 10:30 a.m., March 23, 2020 at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Pastor Chad Anderson officiating. Burial with Military Rites provided by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team, Kearney American Legion Post #52, and Kearney V.F.W. Post #759 will follow at the Kearney Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Glen was born December 8, 1926 on the William and May Schroeder family farm near Wood River, Nebraska. He attended District 44 Country School near Wood River. He joined the Army in 1945 guarding prisoners as an MP during World War II. After his discharge, Glen married Frances Novotny on August 7, 1946 in Smith Center, Kansas. They lived in Lindsay, Nebraska for ten years while Glen farmed. They moved to Gibbon where Glen worked on the farm for Dick Rodgers. He later worked at Rockwell in Kearney for 27 ½ years retiring in 1985. He also worked part-time at Spellman’s Feed Store and Earl May in Kearney. Frances passed away June 12, 1993. He later married Adale Helm on April 25, 1995 in Orleans, Nebraska. They lived in Kearney. Glen was a member of the Eagle’s Club and the American Legion for over fifty years. A man of his word, kind loving father, and proud grandfather, Glen enjoyed playing cards, dancing, polka music, raising sheep, and spending time with his family the most. Glen is survived by his wife Adale Schroeder of Kearney; daughters, Betty Andersen and husband Wayne of Elkhorn, NE, Sue Egger and husband Dave of David city, NE, Glenda Steelsmith of Kearney, NE, Sandy Day and husband Dick of Cozad, NE; son, Larry Schroeder and wife Rhonda of Wilcox, NE; 17 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. Glen was preceded in death by his first wife Frances, son Gaylen, daughter Nancy Schroeder, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and grandsons Heath Andersen and Derek Schroeder.
