Jane A. Smith, age 85, of Kearney, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Brookestone Gardens in Kearney. Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Kearney. Pastor Clint Cozier will officiate and burial will be at Kearney Cemetery. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney is in charge of arrangements. Jane Ann Munro Smith passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Jane was born to George and Alta Munro on November 15, 1935 in Kearney, Nebraska. She graduated from Kearney High School and attended both the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and Omaha. She married Leroy Richard Smith August 7, 1956. She was an elementary school teacher while Lee was in medical school. They moved to Kearney in the late 50’s where they had two children, Stephanie and Scott. Jane was very involved in all of her children’s activities and one of the “favorite mom’s” for all of Stephanie’s and Scott’s friends. Jane or Janie as her family and friends referred to her was very involved in community activities and leadership throughout her life. As a community leader she was very involved in Camp Fire Girls, Cub Scouts, University of Nebraska at Kearney (Kearney State College) Panhellenic advisory board and Founding member of Delta Xi chapter of Alpha Phi, P.E.O., Kearney Community Foundation, First Presbyterian Church, Merriman Performing Arts Center, Kearney Community Theater, Mona Guild and many other community volunteer activities. Over the years Jane has been recognized for her efforts through the following awards: Kearney State College Distinguished Service Award; Kearney State College Foundation Founders Award; University Nebraska Foundation Chancellor’s Club; Kearney Area Community Foundation Celebration of Giving Philanthropist Award. Jane is survived by her husband of 65 years Dr. LR Smith. Her children, daughter Stephanie Pronk (Nico), son Dr. Scott Smith (Lori); Grandchildren, Dr. Marc Sintek (Tara), Natalie Sintek, Jake (fiancée Mercedes), Josh and Drew Smith; Great grandchildren Caleb, Carter and Elise Sintek. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandma, great grandma and friend. Jane was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Munro; sister, Nancy Munro Mitchum
