Bernetha R. Whitehead

Bernetha R. Whitehead, 96, of Kearney died Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at her residence in Kearney. Funeral services will be Friday, February 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Kearney. Rev. Gary Main will officiate and burial will follow at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Hospice, Care of the family. Bernetha was born on November 29, 1918 on the family farm near Hewins, KS to Clarence C. and Lazetta P. (Loftin) Stout. She attended East High School in Wichita, KS and graduated with the class of 1936. She then attended Wichita University and graduated from the Business Preparatory College. She married Jerome S. Rash on December 30, 1939 in Wichita, KS. The family moved to Kearney in 1954. Jerome passed away in 1957. She married Delwin Whitehead on September 14, 1969 in Kearney. Delwin passed away in 2003. Bernetha owned and worked at Kearney Hardware/Ace Hardware for many years. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Kearney. She was also a member of the UMW Open Circle Class. Bernetha volunteered her time for the Cub Scouts and also the youth Baseball and Basketball teams. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s athletic events, cooking and baking; especially holiday meals, bowling, golf and playing pitch. She was also an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan. Surviving relatives include her Son, Larry Rash of Kearney; Grandchildren and spouses, Jerry Rash and wife Jeanne of Kearney, Deb Knutson and husband Andre of Waterloo, NE, Kevin Rash and wife Ginger of Springfield, MO, Brenda Griess and husband Bret of Waterloo, NE and Kami Balthazor and husband Jamey of Gering, NE; Great Grandchildren, Stephanie Wetovick and husband Ryan, Jordan Boston, Dylan Boston, Keithan Karn, Regan Karn, Megan Rash, Drew Rash, Ashden Karn, Ben Rash, Natalie Rash, Jenna Balthazor, Jerod Balthazor, Julia Balthazor, Carson Knutson; Sister, Darlene Witke and husband Roger of Des Moines, IA; Bernetha was preceded in death by her Parents; Husbands, Jerome and Delwin; Son, Jerome Rash, Jr., and Brother, Gilbert Stout.
