Betty M. Franz, 85, of Kearney died Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be Friday, February 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney.Rev. Dean Pofahl will officiate and burial will be at the Riverdale Cemetery.Visitation is planned Thursday from 5:00 ? 7:00 p.m. or prior to services Friday at the Funeral Home.Memorials are suggested to the Ft. She was born April 3, 1925 in Grand Island, NE to Lawrence and Lottie (Franklin) McKibben, the 3rd of 4 children.She grew up and attended school in Grand Island then worked at McKibben Transfer for her father. On July 28, 1943 she married Robert J. Franz in Grand Island, NE.To this union, 2 sons and 1 daughter were born.The couple lived in Grand Island and she worked at Kaufmann?s Dime Store and the Army Ordnance Ammunition Plant.The couple moved to Lander, WY for Bob?s employment then moved to Kearney in 1951where Bob worked for Custom Floor Service.She worked for Cannon?s Motel and The Mouse House.She and her husband owned and operated B&B Floor Coverings until 2004.They also owned and operated 5B?s Antique Shoppe in Old Towne Kearney and B?s Crafts in Kearney, which she and Bob enjoyed for over 20 years. She was a member of the Miller American Legion Auxiliary and was a Gold Star Sister. She was a lifetime member of the Bryant School P.T.A. She did volunteer work with the American Red Cross Blood Services and was awarded volunteer of the year in 2003.She served as a Girl and Boy Scout Leader and was an Admiral in the Great Nebraska Navy.She had also been an active member of the 1733 Barbershoppers Auxiliary and was neighborhood chairman for the American Heart Fund for several years. She was a loving mother and grandmother whose family was very important to her. Surviving relatives: Son Billy and wife Terry Franz of Kearney, NE Daughter : Barb and husband Larry Meyer of Riverdale, NE Granddaughters Lisa and husband Jeremy Munoz of Johnstown, CO Angela and husband John Mach of Callaway, NE Christy Franz of Kearney, NE Grandsons Eric Franz of Kearney, NE Jeff Meyer of Riverdale, NE 5 Great Grandchildren 4 Step Grandchildren 5 Step Great Grandchildren Brother : Harold McKibben of Hastings, NE Daughter in law Betty Franz of Colorado Springs, CO Sister in law Lucille Franz of Canby, OR Numerous Nieces and Nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, son; Barry Franz in 1995, her husband in 2007 and brothers; Leonard McKibbenand Neal McKibben who ws killed in WWII.
