Chad Allen Yates

Chad Allen Yates, 52, passed away in his home in Kearney, Nebraska on October 25, 2024. To know Chad was to love him. He was a cherished father, brother, son, grandfather, uncle, and friend who impacted countless lives with his boundless love and generosity. Chad had an extraordinary gift for building connections. He valued the people in his life deeply, often going out of his way to foster relationships and unite those he cared about. Known for his resilience and infectious laughter, Chad loved storytelling, trading tales with family and friends that will continue to bring smiles to those who remember him. Chad’s adventurous spirit was exemplified in his career as an ironworker. Fearlessly scaling skyscrapers and working high above city skylines, he played an integral role in shaping the architectural beauty of cities across the country. He approached his craft with pride and courage, leaving behind a legacy that stands tall both in the structures he built and the lives he touched. After spending much of his life living and working in many interesting cities, Chad chose to settle in Kearney, Nebraska in his later years to be close to his beloved son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. Their presence brought him immense joy and purpose. Chad was preceded in death by his father, Frederick “Rick” Lewis Yates; his mother, Rebecca McMurtrie Bordner; and his stepmother, Mary June Johnson Yates. Chad is survived by his son Garett Yates, daughter-in-law Sara Yates, and grandson Griffin Yates; brother Jonathan Yates, sister-in-law Gabriela Yates, nephew Alexander Yates; sister Rachel Johnson-Yates, sister-in-law Kristina Johnson-Yates, niece Harper Goff, and nephew Miles Johnson-Yates; sister Stacy Bogner, brother-in-law Rodney Bogner, three nieces, and one nephew; brother Mark Vorhies Sr, sister-in-law Tabatha Vorhies, niece Haleigh Watts, and nephews, Dylan Watts, Mark Vorhies II, and Kayleb Vorhies; brother Eric Vorhies, sister-in-law Renee Vorhies, nephew Isaiah Vorhies, and niece Kira Vorhies; and brother Xavier Tallon Vorhies; sister Siara Loveless, nieces Unity Loveless, Kira Raines, Deja Raines, and Celeste Raines, and nephew Damien Raines; and last but not least, his beloved cat Dixie. Chad’s legacy of love, adventure, and connection will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, and his loved ones will continue to honor his memory by living their lives to the fullest- just as Chad would have wanted.
