Charlene R. Heck

Charlene Rae (Deis) Heck, 91, formerly of Kearney, NE died Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at CHI St. Francis in Grand Island, NE. She went peacefully to her Heavenly home surrounded by family. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney, NE. The Rev. John Rasmussen will officiate. Inurnment with family will be held at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney, NE and Mission Central in Mapleton, IA. Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney are in charge of arrangements. Charlene Heck was born February 19, 1932 in Dayton, OH to Kenneth and Wilma (Quayle) Deis. She received her education in Dayton, graduating from Stivers High School in 1950. After graduation she worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. Charlene married her High School sweetheart, Jack Heck, on July 3, 1951. She was a devoted pastor’s wife and mother. Charlene made many life-long friends at each church her husband served. After moving to an apartment complex, she made new and dear friends who took her in under their wings. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. She was devoted to her church and her Bible Study groups and was a long-time member of the LWML. Our mother loved her pets; her favorite TV show was Blue Bloods. Most dearest to her heart was her love of supporting the churches’ mission efforts. Her faith in the Lord was evident every day until her last day. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 65 years, daughter Kathleen Heck, granddaughter Megan Rae Heck and sister Janet Payton. Those left to cherish her memory include sons; Keith (Chris) Heck of Canby, OR; Kyle (Angelia) Heck of Marysville, WA; and Karl (Paula) Heck of Grand Island, NE. daughters; Kirsten (David) Hughes of West Point, NE; and Karolyne Heck of Kearney, NE, 15 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren, along with a cousin Ron Bennett and nieces Patricia Vititoe, and Betty Nelson.
