David G. Anderson

David G. Anderson, 92, of Amherst, passed into Heaven September 16, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society – St. John’s in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 am, September 20, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst with Pastor Nicholas Whitney officiating. Burial with Military provided by the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team and Miller American Legion Post #351 at Stanley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, September 19, 2024 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to Amherst Lions Club, Miller American Legion Post #351, or Trinity Lutheran Church. David George Anderson was born February 22, 1932, to Alfred and Hazel (Davis) Anderson in Holdrege, Nebraska. David is a family name, and because he was born on George Washington’s birthday, he was given George as a middle name. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege. He attended rural elementary school and Holdrege High School, graduating in 1949. After graduation, he farmed with his dad until the U.S military requested his service. He served in Korea from 1952-54, serving as a supply officer. After honorable discharge, he once again farmed with his dad. He was active in Farm Bureau, KRVN beginnings, was a 4-H leader, and helped with rural youth. He married Kay (Jobman) Schmeeckle on May 28, 1967. He became a new father to Rita and Russell when he adopted them. They lived near the home farm in Holdrege as he continued farming. Rogene and Robin soon completed their family. They bought a farm near Amherst and moved there in March of 1970. They continued farming and raising cattle. David was active in Farm Bureau, Amherst Lions, American Legion, Lutheran Laymen League, and Bible study. He continued being a 4-H leader when the kids were involved. David loved attending the kids’ sporting and music events and continued as the family grew with grandkids. He enjoyed riding horses and camping with his grandchildren. He and Kay celebrated 56 years of marriage in May of 2023. He will be greatly missed by his children: Rita (Duane) Katt, Russell (Lisa) Anderson, Rogene (Victor) Rasmussen, Robin (Greg) Billings, and grandchildren: Tyrel (Randi) Billings, Joshua (Jessica) Billings, David Anderson, Eric (Mollee) Rasmussen, Kristoffer (Autumn) Rasmussen, Nolan (Katelyn) Billings, Regan Rasmussen, Nikolas Katt, Kendra Billings, Dylan Anderson, Alexa Katt, and three great grandchildren: Avila and Ivry Billings, and Koy Billings He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay Anderson, two brothers, and a brother and sister in law.
