Dorothy M. Hilty

Dorothy M. Hilty, 88, of Gretna, formerly of Kearney, died Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Josie Harper Residence Hospice House in Omaha. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 3, 2012 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Kearney with Pastor Stan Murdoch officiating. Burial will be at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Dorothy was born August 8, 1923 near Upland, Nebraska to William and Lulu (McCurry) Epp. She started school near Upland then the family moved to the Odessa area where she graduated from Odessa High School in 1941. She married Everett Hilty on January 31, 1942 in Smith Center, Kansas. She traveled with her husband during WW II; then returned to Kearney after his discharge. While their children Frank and Gloria were growing up she was a homemaker and served as a Boy Scout leader and Girl Scout leader; she also served in PTA programs and church work for years. The family moved to Longmont, Colorado in 1961 where Everett was employed by Great Western Sugar Company for 15 years. Dorothy and Everett moved back to Kearney in July of 1977 after Great Western closed. She was a seamstress for years. Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served several years on different committees for the Glory of God. She enjoyed so much telling others of her Savior and how they too could have Salvation and live with Christ forever. Surviving Relatives: Daughter: Gloria Hilty of Omaha, NE Son Frank &Helen Hilty of Springfield, CO Grandchildren Cheryl, Kelley, Denise, Jennifer, Courtney, and Geoff Several Great Grandchildren Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 grandson.
