Gary L. “Joker” Lea, 79, of Pleasanton died Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Good Samaritan Society – in Ravenna. Services will be Monday, October 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney. Rev. Doug DeNeui will officiate and burial will follow at the Pleasanton Cemetery. Military honors at graveside will be provided by the Pleasanton American Legion Post #321, the Pleasanton V.F.W. Post #9481 and the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team. Visitation with family will be Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and also 1 hour prior to services on Monday all at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney. Gary was born on November 28, 1934 in Pleasanton to Alvin and Helen (Lea) Nickman. He was later adopted and raised by Joe Lea. He attended school in Pleasanton and later served his country during the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Army. Gary married Evelyn J. Schwab on February 20, 1957 in Pleasanton. He married Carolyn J. Keen on December 24, 1972. He worked as a Machinist at Rockwell International in Kearney and later The British Tire and Rubber Company. He was a member of the FO Eagles and also the American Legion. Surviving relatives include his Sons, Roger and Laura Lea of McCool Junction, NE, James Lea of Pleasanton and Gerald Lea of Pleasanton; Daughter, Judy and Mark Emerson of York, NE; Step-Children, Sheila and Dave Prosser of North Carolina, Joyce Keen of Kearney, Jerry Keen of Kearney and Stacey Epley of Omaha; 9 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren Gary was preceded in death by his parents; 2 wives, Evelyn and Carolyn; Daughter in infancy, Loretta Faye and Step-Son, Jon Keen.
