Karin K. Sheen, 56, of Kearney died Friday, October 7, 2016 at CHI – Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral Home in Kearney. Rev. John Gosswein will officiate and burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Axtell, NE. She was born September 10, 1960 in Grand Island, NE to Delmar and Valarie “Sue” (Etherton) Sielaff. She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1978. While at Grand Island Senior High, she participated in a number of activities. She was a member of the Spirit Set, competed in gymnastics and played softball during the summer. After graduating, Karin attended Hastings Tech and graduated with her associate degree in business. While attending school she was the assistant manager of Kentucky Fried Chicken in Hastings, NE. After graduation she transferred to the Grand Island store and continued as a manager. Upon meeting her future husband, David Sheen she moved to Kearney. Dave and Karin were married on Aug. 6, 1983 in Grand Island, NE. From their marriage, they had a son, Zachary Robert born April 29, 1987. As Zachary grew, she enjoyed her time following him around in his activities. Not only was Karin his mother but also one of his biggest supporters. Shortly after being married, Dave and Karin moved to Council Bluffs, IA. This is where Karin first got into the banking industry. Karin worked as a teller in one of the hometown banks in Council Bluffs. When Dave got an opportunity to start/pursue a new career, they returned and made their home in Kearney. Karin then started working at Kearney State Bank where she worked for over 25 yrs. During her time there, she advanced and succeeded in the banking business. As Vice President of operations, she was mentored by her confidant Don Kearney and continued to learn from him until his departure. Karin stayed in contact and received valuable advice from Don. She was a much respected professional throughout the banking business. After Karin left Kearney State Bank she changed the direction of the path she had done for over 25 yrs. She joined the team at Mosaic in Axtell as a DSA/Med Aid. She enjoyed helping the clients and became very close to them. As Karin did in all things she did throughout her life, she earned the respect of her coworkers. She loved the time she had there. Karin enjoyed spending time with Zach sharing and enjoying the rock music they loved together. Karin loved her time with her twin sister Terri whether sitting at the farm or their 10 p.m. phone calls. Surviving relatives include her son Zachary Sheen of Kearney; sisters, Deb Schrack and husband Brad of Kearney Terri Shanahan and husband Jim of Axtell, NE, Wendy Borden of Hastings, nieces Stephanie Potter and husband Brian of Kearney, Malory Arnhold and husband Adam of Hays, KS and Sara Holloway and husband Tanner of Axtell, nephews Philip Schrack of Rochester, MN, Spencer Kehl of Kearney, 3 great nieces and 4 great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Steve Borden and nephew Michael Shanahan.
